Originally from Puerto Rico, Nina comes from a chef background. After being a cook in the U.S. Coast Guard, she used her G.I. bill to go back to school at New York University where she completed her undergrad in Nutrition and Food Studies with a minor in American Sign Language. Moving to Sitka became difficult because restaurants are seasonal, so transitioning into the education field became ideal for her living and family situation. She is currently employed in the Sitka School District as a language paraprofessional helping with students that are hard of hearing, deaf, or Spanish speakers.
Here is her M.Ed. Online Innovation and Design work for University of Alaska Fairbanks.
