This summer I managed the Sitka Farmers Markets.  We finally had a sunny day so I brought my sons chalk bucket with us. I wrote 'Welcome' really big on the ground to add depth and dimension to the picture.

I was trying to sell my chicken eggs online and really wanted to highlight the eggs and have the chicken coop in the back blurred out.  I wanted to show they are free range in the picture without having to write it.  (Fence is there for protection from neighborhood dogs. They can still fly out)

Here I am making corn tortillas from scratch. Thought the closeup with my baking mat would be really aesthetic for a food bloggish approach. The mat gives direction and highlight   of the 'masa' (dough).

Was  trying to  use the rule of thirds, but with something food related. Ordered some Chinese take out and loved the contrast it had with my cement counters.

Was trying to make some pork belly buns.  Wanted to take a different angle and direction in the picture.

This is my sangria pitcher. I wanted to do a cookbook like approach. Cut an orange to add color and theme. A lower viewpoint really gives the pitcher a highlight.

  1. Nina,

Nice collection of images. I appreciate both the still life, the portraiture entailed in the hands, and the scenery of the parking lot. Thanks as well for the detailed information about each picture. Did you use any editing apps or software?

  2. I absolutely love your pictures. The colors you chose are beautiful. And I especially loved that pork belly picture – so creative. That you would think to take a picture of that corner of the meat with the spices like that speaks to your eye for photography. It looks pro!
